Nelly was born in Germany to Friedrich and Rosa (Breiter) Schuler on March 13, 1941. Nelly worked as a teaching assistant with the Washingtonville School District.
Throughout her life, Nelly lived and visited many places, moving from Germany to California in her youth, visiting places like the Virgin Islands and Oregon. In her free time, Nelly enjoyed reading books of all sorts, a love she shared with her family, spending time with many friends, and was an avid participator in her church and her weight loss group.
Nelly was predeceased by her devoted husband John William Bailey in 2014. Survived by beloved children Friedrich Bailey of Monroe, NY; Mary Lynn and husband Clayton Parker of Campbell Hall, NY; Kim Bailey of Pensacola, FL and Leslie and husband John Van Hoose of Ocala, FL.
Loving grandmother of Joseph Erskine; Danielle and Taylor Bailey; Kayla, Rowan, Konnor Parker; and Faith and Jeffery Van Hoose; and great-grandmother of 4.
Cherished sister to Hedwig Hofmann and husband Karl in Germany. Nelly is also survived by her nieces, Petra, Tina, and Jacqueline.
She was, and always will be, Oma to everyone.
A celebration of Nelly’s life will be held Sunday, October 27, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North Street, Washingtonville, NY 10992.
A prayer service will occur Sunday, October 27, 2024 at 6:30 PM, 20 North Street, Washingtonville, NY 10992.
