I am so sorry to hear of Oscar's passing. We worked together at New York Telephone until his retirement. He was one of the guiding lights that made me a better man and a better telephone man. I first met Oscar in the early 70's on 2nd avenue in a manhole that the trunk department and the local CX&M (E37th street) were working in. Later our careers crossed paths again in the Pressure department. I moved in and out of pressure several times but Oscar was always there the welcome me back.
We used to keep a book in the glove compartment of our company coupe with all the best places to eat in Manhattan. I'm speaking of the places we'ed go for lunch each day. The Ideal restaurant on second avenue for German, the Chinese restaurant opposite the 2nd Avenue Central Office, Katz's Deli on Houston Street for a great corn beef sandwich, and all the hot dog vendors throughout Manhattan. If you wanted a good "dirty dog" with great chili you'd go to 11th avenue and 34th street right in front of the old underground garage. We had all these places covered but most of all I had Oscar as my friend. He was a guiding light for me and I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers. The picture below is from Oscar's retirement dinner. Back row left to right: Mickey Jordan, myself, Ed Repose, and Walter Polowski. Seated left to right: Bob Zink, John McPhee, Oscar, Veronica, and Patricia.
