Rachel Cartagena 2/8/1942-1/12/2019 Rachel Cartagena, 76, of Washingtonville, NY, passed away at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, NY on January 12, 2019. She was born to Rachel and Ruben Berrios Sr. on February 8, 1942 in New York, NY, where she lived for most of her life. She was raised with her brother, Ruben. In the sixties, she gave birth to her two loving children Laurie Lyons, and the late Anthony Cartagena. She also raised her stepson, Gregory Cartagena. In the early nineties, she left her life in New York City. She moved to Washingtonville, NY to be with her daughter and son-in-law, and to watch her grandchildren grow up. Rachel was a strong, vibrant woman who left a mark on every person she met. She was a loving mother, devoted grandmother, and beloved friend. She will always be remembered and missed dearly. We would like to thank all staff at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, NY for their compassionate care. We would also like to thank her Doctor, Syed Moin, in Washingtonville, NY. She is survived by her daughter, Laurie Lyons and her son-in-law, Thomas, who she considered to be one of her children, her amazing grandchildren, Dylan and Chelsea Lyons, her stepson, Gregory Cartagena, his wife, Moe and his son Chris Cartagena. She is also survived by her mother, Rachel Berrios and her brother, Ruben Berrios, as well as his wife Jenny and his daughter Dina Davenport and her family. In addition to all those left behind, she is also leaving behind many nieces and nephews. She will be joining her son Anthony Cartagena in heaven. There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday 10:00am at St Mary’s Church, 42 Goshen Avenue, Washingtonville, NY. Burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y.
