Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Barbara Cutter; their three daughters, Laura Rueckert (Michael), Jennifer Brady (James), and Amy Bubenicek (William); his sister, Rosemary Powell; and his cherished grandchildren, Emily, Bridget, William, Christine, Michael, and Brendan. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Anthony, Madeline, and Christopher, as well as a niece, Cathy, and nephews, Sean and Michael.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Richard lived his life with kindness and generosity. He was passionate about golf and traveled the world with his wife, Barbara, creating memories that would last a lifetime. He was deeply involved in his community, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity of Newburgh and Florida, assisting with the St. Mary’s Food Pantry, and serving on the board of directors at St. Joseph’s School for the Blind. A lifelong Catholic, Richard was a past Grand Knight and founding member of the Washingtonville Knights of Columbus and a Trustee with the Town of Blooming Grove and the Planning Board. Richard was an avid NY Giants and NY Yankees fan who did travel with both teams.
Richard was also a retired U.S. Navy officer and a former Vice President of A&P Supermarkets in Montvale, NJ. Additionally, he served as the Director of Operations of the NYS Bridge Authority in Poughkeepsie, NY. Throughout his professional and personal life, Richard was known for his integrity, his dedication to service, and his ability to make lasting friendships.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North St., Washingtonville, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at St. Mary’s Church, 42 Goshen Avenue, Washingtonville, NY. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Washingtonville.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Country Kids Food Pantry, Our Lady of Lourdes 5890 or Wounded Warrior Project in Richard’s memory. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to have known him.
