Roseann Genevieve Kaste

Roseann Genevieve Kaste, a resident of Campbell Hall, NY, passed away on January 9, 2026. She was 83 years old. Roseann was born on January 3, 1943, in Queens, NY, the first of five children to the late Francis and Genevieve (Sobotka) Kempinger. After raising her children, she returned to school to earn her associate’s (SUNY Orange), bachelor’s (Northern Illinois State University) and master’s (University of Saint Francis) degrees in Education. For several decades, she touched the lives and hearts of many children as a CCD teacher, a teaching assistant at Taft Elementary School, in Washingtonville, NY, and later as a kindergarten teacher at St. Scholastica School, in Woodridge, IL. Roseann always made each of us feel special and loved. One kindergartner wrote to her how tickled he was the day she exclaimed that she would cry, because he needed to be absent. Roseann was known to be an amazing cook and an undefeated ping-pong player. Over the years, she volunteered her time to serve many community organizations from Girl Scouts as a troop leader, to the Naper Settlement Colonial Christmas display, to St. Patrick’s Nursing Home. Roseann’s faith was exemplified by her countless actions of love for others, most notably as Grandma.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, John W. Kaste, daughter, Janine and husband Jim Bixler, son, John S. Kaste and wife, Megan, son, Marc Kaste, her cherished grandchildren, Alexandra Fawcett, John X. Kaste, and Kara Kaste, and her beloved siblings, nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Stanley Kempinger.

Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, January 14th from 3-7pm at David T Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North Street, Washingtonville, NY 10992. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Thursday, January 15th at 10:30am at St. Mary’s Church, 42 Goshen Ave, Washingtonville, NY 10992. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 2 Fr. Tierney Circle, Washingtonville, NY 10992.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her honor to the Alzheimer's Association.
