

Sylvia E. Martinez, a resident of Washingtonville, N.Y., passed away on December 31, 2022 at the age of 72 in her home surrounded by her family. Sylvia was born on June 8, 1950 in Aruba and shortly thereafter, her family moved back to their home in the Dominican Republic. She was one of 12 children of the late Julio and Ondina (Colon) Shulterbrandt.
In the late 1950’s, Sylvia moved to the Bronx, N.Y. from the Dominican Republic along with her parents and siblings. At the age of 15 Sylvia met her future husband, Felix Martinez, as high school classmates and neighborhood friends. Soon thereafter, the two married in 1969 and built a wonderful life together where they remained in the Bronx along with their two children, Felix (Pops) and Desiree, before moving to Washingtonville, N.Y. in 2001.
In 1983 Sylvia gave her life to Christ and for many years, faithfully worshipped at Love Gospel Assembly in the Bronx. Sylvia’s faith in God was unwavering, and she was diligent in reading the Bible daily. In addition to studying the Word of God, she also prioritized education. Sylvia earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Mercy College and worked hard to ensure that her two children and grandchildren excelled in higher education.
Throughout her life, Sylvia was a devout homemaker where she enjoyed reading, spending quality time with her family, and took great pride in keeping her home pristine.
Sylvia E. Martinez is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 53 years, Felix Martinez, her children, Felix Martinez and his wife Sara Martinez, Desiree Resto and her husband Dr. Vincent K. Resto, her grandchildren, Gabriel and Ethan Martinez, her siblings Violetta Andino, Nancy Twyman and Ernesto, Theodore, Juan, Ralphy, Albert and Alfred Shulterbrandt, as well as many loving brother and sisters in law, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
To many friends and family, Sylvia was a true confidant. She sought to live by the Fruits of the Spirit and to see the goodness in everyone. As a true ambassador of Christ, she showed grace and mercy to all. Her actions contributed to the beauty and kindness of the world we live in.
