Thomas J. Alessandro, or as his most favorite people would call him: Tommy A, TA, Tommy Red Mulch, fella, FIL, GPT, or Dad, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, in New Windsor, NY.
Tommy was born on November 29, 1952, in Hollis, Queens. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Yonkers, NY in 1970. He proudly served his country as an aircraft maintenance specialist in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Ellsworth, South Dakota from 1971-1977. TAs journey led him to become the owner of Tommy A’s Place in Washingtonville, NY where he poured his heart into his work and his glass for almost 2 decades. He especially appreciated the work friendships he made with both coworkers and friends along his route while serving his 29 year sentence at FedEx, from 1987 until his retirement in November of 2016. TANGDAFE! (if you know, you know)
TA enjoyed many things: retirement, playing cards (poker, 31, or really, anything except hold-em!), cabin weekends, camping all season at Rips, large campfires with his grandson, claiming a cornhole championship belt, sipping Cumberland coffee, cruising, trips to the casino, bowling, softball, golf, singing loudly with Frank Sinatra or Eddie and the Cruisers, dinners at Cosimos, or relaxing and cheering on his beloved Yankees or Giants. Many great stories will continue to be shared in his memory.
Tommy leaves behind a legacy of friendship, love and laughter. He is survived by his son Joseph Alessandro, his wife Meeghan and grandson Devin of Monroe, NY; his daughter Christina Alessandro and David Snyder of Fairfield, CT; and son Vincent Alessandro his wife Erin and soon to arrive baby Alessandro of White Plains, NY. Tom is also survived by his former wife Joan Alessandro of Jupiter, FL, his sweetheart Georgette Vaccaro of Massapequa, NY, his sister Francine Alessandro of New Windsor, NY and a multitude of family, friends, and co-conspirators who helped him enjoy his time along the way.
Thomas J. Alessandro lived life to the fullest, leaving behind a trail of cherished memories and a legacy of love that will continue to inspire those who knew him. As he would proudly declare “I did it my way!”. Rest in peace, knowing you touched the lives of many and will be forever remembered with fondness and gratitude.
A visitation will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 1PM to 4:30PM followed by a funeral service at 4:30PM at David T Ferguson Funeral Home , 20 North Street, Washingtonville, NY 10992. A private cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations in Tommy’s memory be made to organizations supporting veterans, or any organization close to your heart.
