Vilma Guity Guerrero, passed away on February 6, 2021 at the age of 83 in Newburgh, NY. She was born on May 15, 1937 in La Ceiba Honduras C.A. to the late Salomon Guity & Esther Nunez de Guity. Vilma moved to Brooklyn, NY in 1959, where she met and married Pablo Garcia (deceased). She raised her family in Sheepshead Bay and was a stay-at-home mom until starting to work at Parkway Hospital (1980) in Kew Gardens, NY. She retired from Parkway Hospital in 2000 and returned to La Ceiba shortly thereafter to enjoy her retirement. Vilma returned to NY regularly to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
As the matriarch of her family, Vilma (affectionately known as “Mima”) was a woman who exemplified faith, grace, servitude and strength. Whether she was cooking tortillas/food, shopping for others or reaching out on the phone; her servant's heart and hospitable nature, always ensured family and friends were cared for. She loved dancing and always lit up the room. Vilma will be remembered for her quick-witted humor, her infectious smile, and her honesty. She always showed the importance of family and leaves behind a legacy that will endure through future generations. She will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.
