

Waterville - Agnes Ann (Couture) Pomerleau, a longtime resident of Winslow, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday May 19, 2016 at Lakewood Continuing Care Center in Waterville. Agnes had lived the last six years of her life with dementia/Alzheimer’s. She was born in Waterville, Maine on September 24, 1934, a daughter of William A. and Elizabeth (Dustin) Taylor of Waterville. Agnes attended Mount Merici Academy and finished her education at Waterville High School.
Out of high school Agnes began working in the office of the family business started by her father which bore his name: W.A. Taylor, Inc. Working in the appliance store, Agnes did everything from answering the phone, waiting on customers, to doing the accounting. She worked for W.A. Taylor for many years until the business was sold in 2002 and she retired.
In 1954, Agnes married her husband of 61 years, Francis (Frank) Pomerleau of Winslow, who recently passed on December 12, 2015.
Agnes was an active member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary for years, holding different officer positions for the Waterville Post. Agnes had a nice warm smile. She was a good cook. She enjoyed flowers. She followed the Red Sox. Agnes was even known to bird hunt with her husband Frank at their camp in The Forks.
Agnes is survived by her son Jeffrey Pomerleau and his wife Audie Harris of Scarborough; two grandsons: Eliot and Nolan Pomerleau of Scarborough; five brothers: Kenneth Couture; Eugene Couture and his wife Judy; Reggie Couture; Harvey Couture and his wife Rennette; James Couture and his wife Enola all of Waterville; four sisters: Rita Cormier of Clinton; Betty DeRaps of Fairfield; Genny Adams of Waterville; Norma Stankevitz and her husband Frank of Saco; as well as many nieces and nephews. Agnes was predeceased by her brothers William, Jr. and Bernard Couture and her sister Cecile Dugas.
A Mass of Christina Burial will be celebrated on Saturday June 11, 2016 at 11:00 am at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 112 Silver Street, Waterville. Burial will be at a later date in the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
