To the Mathieu Family,

First I want to express my sincere condolences to all of you.  

I know this comes really late but since even before getting out of the mill I had no contact with Gerald.  Then after leaving the mill I started going south and southwest in the winters for my wife's employment and would seldom look at the newspaper online and that's how I missed his passing.

I new Gerald a little in my teens but got to be better friends a little later on.  I too worked with Gerald at Scott Paper Co.  We played hockey on opposing teams at Sukee Arena.  Gerald and I to this day believe we were the first to get rollerblades in Waterville.  When we skated on some of the streets we got some really odd looks from a lot of people.  They had never seen them before.  Gerald and I had a lot of mild verbal battles on hockey.  I being from Canada was an avid Canadiens fan and Gerald of course had his Bruins.  But we were together when it came to The Beatles.  No battles there but he did like John Lennon and I liked Paul McCartney slightly better.  We also had many conversations about his children when we worked on the same paper machine at the mill. They meant everything to him.  

Well Gerald, even though we had not spoken for quite a number of years I was still really sorry and shocked to hear that you had passed.  I could have been a good friend until the end.  But I wasn't.  My loss.

Growing up with Gerald was a fun and special time. We shared allot of memories living in the same place.We were all family. My heart and prayers go out to you.

My condolences to the entire Mathieu family for your loss. I went through school w/Gerald (Sacred Heart & WTVL Sr. High). Glad those pictures of Gerald were posted, was great seeing them... RIP Gerald.

To all the Mathieu family,
 We lived in the same house on Ticonic St for a while and Germaine and Helen and Gerald was a little boy at that time. Wer were such good friends and always stayed in touch when we came to Maine in the summer. Germaine, I am so sorry to hear about Geralds passing. Gob Bless you all.

Aunt Germaine and family.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.  Although I left Maine in 1956, I still remember the trips to the lake with you, Helen and Gerald when we were little.

Sad to hear of the passing of my old friend Gerald. We had many good times at our home on Leighton Street back in the day.
I have never known anyone that loved the Beatles more than Gerald.

Dad, When I was little, you were my absolute hero. Everything you did was cool. As I got older, I was sometimes mad because I wished we had spent more time together. I loved you so much and all I wanted was you in my life everyday. When I went through my own divorce and separation, I realized how overwhelming and complicated life can be. You came and got us every vacation, every year, and made our time there special and fun. I always could get advice from you and you never judged me or condemned me. You had the biggest heart of anyone I know and everywhere we went people loved you. I will miss you more than you could ever imagine and will always honor you by loving my own children, always being honest, and I will keep my promise to take care of karen and keep her safe. You were and still are my hero Dad. I love you with all my heart. Your palywalsy, Michael. I love you...
