Germaine (Huard) Mathieu, 95

Waterville - Germaine M. Mathieu, 95, of Waterville passed away on Friday February 16th, 2018 at MaineGeneral Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born February 5th, 1923 in Winslow, a daughter of the late Louis Huard and Helen (Turgeon) Huard. She was educated in the Winslow School system. Germaine worked in several mills in Oakland and Waterville and at Hollingsworth and Whitney Paper Mill in Winslow. While working there she met the love of her life Frank Mathieu. They were married on June 5, 1948. They were blessed to share 47 years together.

Germaine is survived by her son David Mathieu of Waterville; her daughter Helen Nadeau and her husband John of Waterville; her four grandchildren: Daniel Nadeau and his wife Kahli of Waterville; David Nadeau of Wells; Karen Mathieu of Portland; Michael Mathieu of Portland; her four great-grandchildren: Julia, Aidan, Lowell, and Jack; her four brothers: Gerald and Joseph Huard of California; Leonel and his wife Angela of Winslow; Louis Jr. and his wife Linda of Gorham; her three sisters-in-law: Violette Huard of Winslow; Jane Huard of California; Lillie Huard of California and also many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Frank, who passed away in 1995 and her son Gerald in 2013. She was also predeceased by her parents; her brothers: John, Lucien, Reginald, George, Fern, Leon, David, Wallace and sisters: Anita, Antoinette and Elizabeth.

Germaine was a devout Catholic and a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church in Waterville. Her Catholic faith always guided her throughout her life. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. She had a heart full of love for everyone and her home was always open and welcoming to all. Germaine was a proud and loving grandmother to her four grandchildren. She loved to sew and bake and go out to lunch with family and friends. She was a fan of all the Boston sports teams, especially the Boston Red Sox. Her endless love and thoughtfulness will never be forgotten. She will be in our thoughts and hearts forever.

The family would like to thank the staff on 1 West at MaineGeneral Medical Center for all of the great care they provided Germaine.

At her request there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday February 26, 2018 at 11:00 am at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 112 Silver Street, Waterville. I did not know Germaine, but if she was anything like her brothers she must have been a wonderful person. I used to have coffee at Micky D's some of the Huard brothers before I moved. May she rest in heaven.
