

Born July 1, 1937 in Beauceville Est, P.Q. Canada to the late Joseph Veilleux and Marie-Louise (Roy) Veilleux, he was educated in Canadian schools and joined the Canadian National Guard where he continued to further his education. He retired from the Waterville School Department after over 30 years of devoted service having worked most recently at the George J. Mitchell School (formerly Brookside School), South Grammar and Waterville Jr. High in the Maintenance Departments. He was previously employed by several Building Contractors in the area and in Canada utilizing his Construction and finely honed Carpentry skills.
Jean-Paul met his wife, Gabrielle Rossignol in 1964 on a blind date; a year later they were engaged, a year after that they married on April 23, 1966 in a lovely wedding ceremony at Notre Dame church in Waterville, Maine. Jean-Paul was very proud to become a Naturalized Citizen in the late 60’s. He was a deeply religious and devout man, having been a member of the League of Sacred Heart, the Parish Council and many other church committees. Jean-Paul was extremely devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, never missing a day of prayer or saying his rosary. He was an active member at Corpus Christi Parish, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and an Acolyte until the time of his passing. Jean-Paul or J.P. as he was also well known as, was also a prior member of the Calumet Club in Augusta. He also had a passion for his family, always putting their needs above his. He built the home that he lived in for 30 years. Jean-Paul was a very loving, caring and generous man who also assisted many relatives, friends and neighbors who were close to his heart. One couldn’t ask for a more devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother or friend.
He was predeceased by two brothers; Philippe and Eugène Veilleux of Beauceville Est, P.Q. Canada, his father and mother in-law Philip and Louise Rossignol of Waterville. Jean-Paul is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Gabrielle (Rossignol) Veilleux, his sons Normand and Lee Veilleux of Waterville and Fairfield, respectively, his best friend and grandson Tresten Bergeron, his sisters Suzanne Talbot and husband Roger of Winslow, Lucille Boulet and husband Norman of Winslow, Lucienne Roy and husband Victor of St. Georges, Canada, Yvonne Lefebvre and husband Joseph R. of Winslow, Françoise Veilleux of Beauceville Est, P.Q. Canada, Christine Veilleux of Lévis, Canada, his brothers Maurice Veilleux and his wife Gisèle of Lévis, Canada, Bernard Veilleux and his wife Ginette of Beauceville Est, P.Q. Canada and Bertrand Veilleux and his wife Monique also of Beauceville Est, P.Q. Canada, an aunt Gisèle Lemay Roy of Beauceville Est, P.Q. Canada, a cousin Ruth Veilleux Fredette of Winslow. Jean-Paul also leaves behind a brother and sister in-law Donald and Juliette Poirier of Waterville, to whom he was very close to, a sister in-law Sister Françoise Rossignol of St. Hyacinthe, Canada, brother in-law Richard Plourde of Mount St. Joseph, Waterville, whom he was very dedicated to, sister in-law Claudette Proulx of Ontario, Canada, many nieces and nephews as well as many great nieces and nephews from the U.S. and Canada.
Jean-Paul’s family would like to thank the clergy, all of the family and friends, the staff at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, the staff at Maine Medical Center Special Care Unit in Portland for their assistance and support during this difficult time.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, September 26, from 5 – 8 p.m. at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm St., Waterville. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 27, at Notre Dame Church (Corpus Christi Parish) 116 Silver St. Waterville at 9Am. Burial to follow at St. Francis Cemetery 78 Grove St., Waterville. In lieu of flowers, you may send a donation to the Servants of the Blessed Sacrament, 101 Silver St., Waterville, ME or to Corpus Christi Parish, 70 Pleasant St., Waterville, ME.
