WINSLOW - Omerine T. Veilleux passed away peacefully on December 15, 2023 at Goudreau's Retirement Inn in Winslow. She was born on April 14, 1929 at the Sisters of Charity Hospital in Waterville, now known as Mount St. Joseph, to Frank and Mary King. She lived in Waterville until 1954, then moved to Winslow with her husband, Norman Veilleux, living in Winslow until her death.
She attended St. Francis Parochial School and St. John's Parish in Winslow, and graduated from Thomas College in 1945. She served as a Eucharistic minister at her church for several years, and also belonged to the Servants of the Blessed Sacrament in Waterville. She was part of the Thomas College orchestra, and sang in the church choir, as well as in nursing homes and the Veterans Home at Togus.
She had many hobbies, such as sewing, quilting, needlepoint, and embroidery, and produced beautiful work. She loved cooking and would make meals for sick friends and donated her time to church fairs. She enjoyed making puzzles and playing cards with friends.
Omerine worked all of her adult life, ending her career as the general manager of Chevron Oil in the 1980s.
She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Melissa; her husband, Norman; and her son, James. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Gloria, two grandchildren, Chris and Vanessa, and three great-grandchildren, Briana, Trafton, and McKenna. She also leaves behind a wonderful sister-in-law, Teresa Aucoin, and two very special nieces Connie Bernier and Anne Marie.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the many friends she made while living at Goudreau's and for the wonderful staff there. A special thank you goes out to Beacon Hospice for making the end of her journey as sensitive and peaceful as they did.
There will be a graveside service in the spring of 2024 as per her wishes.
