Paul "Sonny" L. Castilloux

Paul “Sonny” Louis Castilloux passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Cedar Ridge Nursing Center in Skowhegan surrounded by his daughter, Jasmine Cooper, companion, Judith Bossie and her daughter, Sharon Noel. Born in Waterville on August 24, 1947, he was the only child of Clifford and Ethel (McKenzie) Castilloux.

When Sonny was a young child, the family moved to Winslow where he lived for 60 years. After graduating from Winslow High School, he attended Augusta Business School. Sonny worked in construction in his early years and then accepted a position with the Maine State Liquor Commission where he worked for 26 years.

Sonny was a member of the Martha Washington Chapter of the Eastern Star and Waterville Masonic Lodge #33. He was also a Senior Ambassador for Kora Temple belonging to the Kora Shrine in Lewiston where he was active in the Klown Unit for many years. He was proud to belong to this group that does so much to help physically challenged children.

Sonny was also a sports enthusiast all his life. He will be remembered as an umpire for Little League, Babe Ruth, and Junior High Baseball, an activity he enjoyed very much. He developed an interest in boxing at an early age, since his father and uncles were involved in professional boxing. Football was his greatest sports interest. During his 20’s, he played semi-pro football for the Griffin Club in Portland. Sonny made many close friends in the world of sports, and among them are Ken Perone and Pep Cornaccio, both of Danvers, MA.

Sonny was an extremely caring and thoughtful person, who took the time to visit sick friends no matter how far away. He visited the elderly in nursing homes and attended funerals of friends and relatives of his late parents.

He is survived by his companion and best friend, Judith Bossie, his daughter and her husband, Jasmine and Scott Cooper, and his grandchildren, Autumn, Jacob, and Chrysta. He leaves behind very special friends: Jeanne Carey, Glenn Carnegie, Gary Mathieu, Neil McLaughlin, Gerald Saint Amand, and Richard Pomeleau.

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and CNAs at Thayer Hospital in Waterville and Cedar Ridge Nursing Center in Skowhegan for the excellent care he was given this past winter.

Visiting hours will be held at Veilleux Funeral Home in Waterville from 2-4 and 7-9pm on Friday, April 9, 2010, with a Masonic Service during this time at 7:30pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. John’s Church in Winslow at 11:00am on Saturday, April 10, 2010. In lieu of flowers, friends can make donations in his name to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104, or the Shriners Burns Hospital, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114.
