1935-2015
LEWISTON - On May 21, 2015 after a brief illness, Pauline Reny Daniels, with great courage, passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She was a remarkable mother, memere, sister, and friend who will be sadly missed by all.
She was born on January, 29,1935 at her family homestead in North Vassalboro, Maine to Arthur and Dorothy (Lizotte) Reny. She was a graduate of Winslow High School, class of 1952. On June 22, 1957 she married Stanley Daniels. Together they had four beautiful children: William S. Daniels, John (Jack) A. Daniels, Paula D. Kirtley, and Anne D. Macklin. Her world expanded with four grandchildren: Christopher L. Daniels, Josselyn R. Daniels, Heather R. Kirtley, and Zachary A. Kirtley. While in Waterville she spent more than 30 years with The New England Telephone Company. A hard and capable worker, she also spent time at Levine’s Clothing Store, and Waterville Osteopathic Hospital. Also in Waterville, she served on the Board of Trustees for the Kennebec Water District. After moving to Portland she managed the Promenade Towers for almost 15 years.
Pauline “Pauli” Daniel’s heart radiated the greatest unconditional and infinite love anyone could ever experience. Motherhood was her true calling, giving her much joy and many gray hairs. She was the ultimate Soccer Mom and wore that title proudly. She loved to share her appreciation of theater and the arts with many. Her compassion for others led to many years of volunteering at The Winter Special Olympics, reading to school children, ushering art lovers for many theaters, and opening her arms to all. She was a founding member of the Munjoy Hill Garden Tours in Portland and was given a key to the City of Portland for all her contributions. She was a true nature lover, a shining star at Christmas, could set a dance floor on fire with her moves, found peace at the ocean, and was Queen of needhams. Her gift for gab was renowned and her smile could light up a room. May the beauty, love and goodness of Pauline continue to shine through all who knew and loved her.
Pauline was predeceased by her parents, her brother Robert Reny, and sister Mary (Reny) Thorne. Surviving are her children, grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters; Donald Reny of Winslow, Lillian Richards of Winslow, Arlene Mayhugh of Cleveland, OH, Peter Reny of North Vassalboro, and Priscilla Reny of Eddington.
A funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 30th, at Notre Dame Church, 116 Silver Street, Waterville. The burial service will follow at Saint Francis Cemetery 78 Grove St. Waterville. A Celebration of Life reception will begin at 11 a.m. at The Waterville Opera House, 1 Common Street.
