

WATERVILLE - Robert (Bob) C. Giroux, 83 of Winslow, passed away September 25th, 2015 with his family by his side at Mt. St. Joseph in Waterville, Maine, following a period of declining health. Robert was born August 8, 1932, the son of Royal and Yvette (Joler) Giroux.
At the age of 11, Robert was involved in a tragic accident which resulted in the amputation of his left leg. He attended the Pine Tree Camp in Belgrade for 2 weeks for 4 years where he learned boating, swimming, building campfires and life saving techniques. Even though Robert was missing a limb, he refused to be labeled handicapped.
Robert graduated from Waterville High School and Thomas Business College. While attending college, Robert met his wife, Luella Rose Bailey, whom he married April 24th, 1954. They were married for 52 years.
Robert retired from Hathaway Shirt Company of Waterville in 1998, where he worked as a Computer Operator. He had previously worked at Ladd Paper Company in
Vassalboro, Me.
Robert had apartments that he enjoyed fixing up using carpentry skills he learned in school. He, also, enjoyed being with people and swapping stories. As his family was growing up, Robert enjoyed going to camp and swimming, boating and fishing. Robert was a member of the Central Maine Apartment Association of Maine and the Waterville-Oak Gem and Mineral Society, Inc.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Luella, and his parents, Royal and Yvette (Joler) Giroux.
Robert is survived by his sisters; Lucie Goodno of New Bern, NC, Jeannette Bilodeau and her husband Bob of Waterville, Shirley Aube of Skowhegan, Lorraine LeBlanc of Waterville, Theresa Helliksen of Jacksonville, NC, Esther Scott and her husband Roy of Waterville and a brother David Giroux of Bangor. Robert is also, survived by his sons; Robert and his wife Lisa of Winslow, Rodney and Richard of Winslow, Raymond and his wife Alison of LaSalle MI, Philip and his wife Debbie of Carmel, Me, and his daughters; Elaine Ferguson of Whitefield and Nancy Shores and her husband Brian of Waterville. Robert also has numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, October 1st at Veilleux Funeral Home at 8 Elm St. in Waterville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, October 2nd at Notre Dame Church on Silver St. in Waterville ME at 11 am.
