Ron was born on October 28, 1948 to Robert Napoleon Pineau and Joan d’Arc Fournier in Farmington Falls. After Ron graduated from Jay High School in 1967, he was drafted into the United States Armed Forces as a member of the 3rd Squadron of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment and served in both Germany and Vietnam. During his time “in country” he was a tank driver and sustained severe injuries from a tank accident. He was honorably discharged in 1970. On his return, he briefly attended the University of Maine at Orono before graduating from the Central Maine Vocational-Technical Institute with a degree in Industrial Electricity in June of 1976. He spent the remaining years of his career as an electrician working at the Otis Paper Mill in the town of Jay.
Ron loved to spend time outdoors where he canoed down the Allagash, snowmobiled thousands of miles across the state of Maine, slayed hundreds of fish, and bagged dozens of birds, deer and moose. He was an accomplished athlete who skied, played baseball, softball, and football in his high school and college years. That love of sports continued into his adult life where he skied, played softball, and even coached his son’s little league team. He particularly loved spending time at the Pineau Family camp on Moosehead Lake, where he was found most often with a cup of coffee (or an Old Milwaukee) and a book in hand. If he wasn’t reminding his kids to “pay attention” or that when you’re out fishing you always have to “watch the tip” of your rod, he could be found frying up deer heart and liver, making chili, or whipping up a batch of his famous spaghetti sauce and meatballs.
Ron’s greatest personal passion was music. He played guitar and sang everywhere from the jungles of Vietnam, on Maine public television, in weddings, at the VFW, or as a volunteer at local nursing homes. You could even find him listening to his own recorded music while driving around his hometown of Jay.
He is survived by his children, Sherry Pineau Brown (and husband Alexander “Xandy”), Christine Pineau, Joanne Pineau, John Pineau (and wife Kristyn); grandchildren Katherine “Kitt”Brown and Mckenna “Mac” Pineau; siblings Norman Pineau (and wife Nancy), Raymond Pineau (and wife Denise), Marie Pineau, Ed Pineau (and wife Cate), and Rita (Pineau) Pender; and dozens of loving nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family. He is predeceased by mother, Joan d’Arc Fournier and father, Robert Napoleon Pineau.
Ron’s children would like to recognize the love and support provided by his nephews Gerry, Jimmy and Nate Pineau, and all of the other brothers, nieces, cousins, and sisters who came to spend time with him during his final days. The love they provided showed the true meaning of family for which we are all forever grateful.
A celebration of life will be held at the Jay VFW on Sunday October 22nd at 11am. All are welcome to come, reminisce and share their favorite stories about Ron, or even grab one of his guitars and play. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Ron’s name to the Good Shepherd Food Bank.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.VeilleuxFuneralHome.com for the Pineau family.
