John Piggy F. Cherock

John F. “Piggy” Cherock Sr., age 90, of Watkins Glen, NY passed away on Friday, April 20th, 2012 at Schuyler Hospital in Montour Falls, NY.

John was born in Watkins Glen, NY on April 26th, 1921, the son of the late William and Rose Cherock. He served in the US Army during WWII. John was employed with the Glen Chevrolet, Sar & Aggies Resturant, and Central Asphalt. John was a member of the Watkins Glen Fire Dept., the Watkins Glen Elk’s Lodge #1546, the Italian American Veterans Club, the VFW, and the Seneca Chiefs Drum and Bugle Corp. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and bocce ball.

John is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Grace; his sons, John (Betty) Cherock Jr and David (Sandra) Cherock; grandchildren, Nicole Cherock-Kriner, Christy Cherock-Luna, and Jennifer Cherock-Hopper; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Jean Marie and five brothers and one sister.

Friends and family may call from 9am to 11am on Tuesday, April 24th at the Link at St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, 905 Decatur St., Watkins Glen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church following at 11am. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

I am very sorry to hear that my great friend Piggy is gone. I remember the great times that we had together and many laughs we shared. He was a joy to have around and there was never a dull moment.
