Mary was born in Montour Falls, NY on June 2nd, 1959, the daughter of the late Anthony and Connie (Jones) Borra. She worked for Cornell University for over
35 years where she worked in several student-facing organizations, human resources and alumni affairs and development. She will be remembered for her excellent work, her analytical mind, her depth of experience, her warmth, good nature, and positive attitude that she brought to work every day. Mary was a devoted caregiver to her aging family members. She was always a person you could count on. Mary enjoyed playing hockey, watching roller derby, playing cards, going to auctions and playing golf. She loved gardening, tending her flowers, and rescuing cats. Mary was also an active member of St. Mary’s of the Lake Church in Watkins Glen.
Mary is survived by her siblings, Robert E. (Pam Coyle) Borra, James A. (Melissa Chipman) Borra, William A. Borra, Frank A. (Pat) Borra, Richard R. (Mary) Borra; very close and special niece, Toni (James) Monroe; her aunts, Mary P. Borra and Mary Randolph; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends and family may call from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday, February 25th at the Haughey Wood Funeral Home, 119 5th St., Watkins Glen. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 26th at 10am at St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, 905 Decatur St., Watkins Glen, NY. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Watkins Glen.
