Cecelia M. Platz, age 97, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Wellspring Nursing Home in Livonia, Michigan. She was predeceased by her cherished husband and only love of her life, Edward. She is survived by their three sons: William (Nicole), Richard (Jani), and David (Sherry): seven grandchildren: Michele (Jon) Thomas, Veronique Platz, Joseph (Sara) Platz, Darrell (Susan) Platz, Steven (Jennifer) Platz, Jason (Melanie) Platz, and Emily (Scott) Dickey, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Cecelia was born at home on Miller Road (now the Southfield Freeway) in Detroit on March 4, 1917 to Alfred and Stella (Ankofski) Boucard who prospered in the greenhouse business and afforded her the rather privileged youth she always appreciated. After graduating from St. Mary’s of Redford High School, she attended nurse’s training and received her RN Degree from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan after which she worked in the profession at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Detroit. After raising her three sons, she returned to nursing in a volunteer capacity at The Little Sisters of the Poor in Detroit for 25 years. When the good Sisters relocated to Ohio, she then volunteered to work in an administrative assistant capacity at St. Mary’s Hospital in Livonia for another 15 years.
Cecelia loved her family dearly. She was a very hard-working woman and a fine example of honesty and integrity to all generations that knew her. She was a woman of charm and grace yet, she could be quite feisty when she felt it necessary to be so. She loved having a good time and kept busy and on-the-move at every opportunity. Evidence of her high energy level can be seen in the fact that over a period of years she put 10,000 miles on her stationary bicycle, and then replaced it with a new one.
She was the best of wives’ and the best of mothers and grandmothers. She will be missed by all who knew her.
