Darrell Laurence Lucas

Sonny was the beloved son of Darrell Cline Lucas and Veda Mary Wilson. He was the beloved brother to Joanne Thiem, Darlene Hawley, Barbara Shafer, Allen Lucas, Karlyn Haack, Edward "Butch" Kneip, and Richard Kneip. He is survived by Joanne, Darlene, Karlyn, and Richard.

Sonny grew up in Wayne, Michigan and attended Wayne Memorial High School. He later attended Western Michigan University. Following college Sonny served in the Vietnam war in the Army where he received the Bronze Star for heroism. Sonny started his career in Washington DC, writing for various special interest magazines. After a stint in California he returned to the Washington DC area to open a restaurant with his sister Barbara, her husband Ron Shafer, and his brother Allen. In 2013 he retired back to Wayne, Michigan to be near family and friends. A life-long bachelor, Sonny proudly followed the accomplishments of his many nieces and nephews.

Throughout his life, Sonny was always known for his creativity, humor, and compassion for all. He will be greatly missed.

A service will be held on Monday, August 17th at 11am at the First Congregational Church of Wayne.
