I was privileged to become reacquainted with the Paffel clan over the past few St. Mary's reunions, including Jim, Jack and Jody.  My heart and prayers are with the entire family.  I hope today's celebration of Jim's life brings peace and joy in the memory of a good man.

I will always remember the laughs and storys we shared.you made the days at work a lot more tolerable.I will see you on the other side someday my friend.RIP

There are those we remember as being larger than life.  Who light up a room with their infectious smile and acerbic wit.  Who always made us feel good no matter how bad things might have been with us.  That was Jim Paffel.  Although it has been almost 40 years since I have seen him, I can vividly remember many great times with him back in the day at St. Mary's. There is a good story about Jim and his Triumph motorcycle just after high school, but that is for another time. When I heard of Jim's passing it made me sad, but the memories of him from those high school days brought a smile.  It's times like this that make me grab for the old high school yearbook to reflect on how life was simpler back 40 years ago and remember Jim and all the people who were such a big part of that time.  I'm trying to post a picture of Jim from the yearbook that pretty much sums up who he was then and who I imagine he was as he went through life.  Someone who was larger than life that we all are grateful, and better, for knowing. My condolences to Jim's family.

I knew Jim from St. Mary's days. But I also worked with Jim on the Eastern Michigan University newspaper in the 1970s. We had a talented staff, and most of us would have bet that Jim would have ended up excelling in journalism. He was a Jimmy Breslin-style, old school reporter, hard-nosed, fun-loving, full of spit and vinegar. He was a force. I can still picture Jim hunched over our old Underwood typewriters banging out a column. He was a very popular guy in our group. Rest in peace, Jimmy Paffel. My condolences to his family

So glad Jim came to visit us this summer at our place in the U.P. He seemed to enjoy the quiet and all the stars. We will miss you Jim.

As a pal of Jim's sister Jody at St Mary's, I knew him and his family.  They're great people- the Lentine's wish to express our condolences.

My condolences to John Paffel, Mrs. Peggy Paffel and Family, I knew Jim and John since I was 6 years old at St. Mary's and Jim was one of the most friendly and sweet person there ever was and if I saw John, I knew that Jim was nearby, he always took time to say hi and was always kind and friendly to me. They were great brothers and friends, my heartfelt condolences for the loss of Jim.

Like so many others, I cannot imagine Jim without a smile on his face. I have not seen him since a long ago class reunion but will always have happy memories of getting into trouble in our old neighborhood on Chestnut, not to mention high school. We spent so many years in St. Mary's together--he is an integral part of so many happy memories. My deepest sympathies and love to the whole Paffel family.  God bless Jim and all of you.

As a kid who was younger during Jackie and Jimmy's teenage years, he was always larger than life.  I remember him as being a clone of his dad.  When we would see the Paffels, once or twice a year after we moved to Ohio, we would always have a great time.

Jimmy always had the biggest smile on his face-- he would light up a room and bring you inside of it, to share the joke or the fun.

I can still see him in my mind as though it were those days again.  He will always be alive there.

May he find the same joy as he readies himself for "what's next".

Our thoughts and prayers are for him, and for those of us he left behind for a time.

Jimmy made me laugh...We never had a cross word....He was one of those people who made work and life more enjoyable just by his presence....I am a better person for knowing Jim.....

The entire Paffel Family has meant so much to me over the last half of a century. But Jimmy really went beyond the call of duty when he took my sister to her all girls school prom. He was a wonderful guy.

I remember Jim from Little League in Wayne. He played for the Senators. I played for the Indians. He was a good player and reflected well on his teammates. Sorry to hear of his passing. I will keep Jim and his family in my prayers. Please accept my most heartfelt condolences.

It's been years since I've seen Jim and reconnected with him through Facebook within the last couple years. I remember him as the guy a year ahead of me in high school who always seemed to be smiling or laughing, and who was always nice to me.  His FB posts, and things people are posting about him on FB, show a man who believed that kindness mattered and a man who loved life.  What a lovely legacy to leave behind!  Rest well, Jim.  I'll see you one day on the other side; I'll look for the guy who's always smiling.

Although we had not been in touch recently , Jim and I survived catholic school together and were roommates in college for a couple of years. He was always up for a good time , and one of the few people I know without a mean bone in his being. People like that are rare , and he will be missed. My sympathy to Jack , Jody , and Jim's family.

Jim was a wonderful friend and a great human being.  I am proud to have had a lifetime friendship with him, and miss him deeply,

Jim and I go way back.  He was  one of my first friends.  We were altar boy partners.  Played on the same little league team.   Graduated in the same high school class.  Shared our first "bachelor pad" after school.  Unfortunately, I moved away and we lost touch after awhile.  Fond memories.

Many great memories of Jim from back in the day. Unfortunately, we have communicated via Facebook lately. He will be missed.

Jim was a great guy. I haven't seen him in . . . well, over 40 years, but I can still vividly remember him and our friendship. From playing Little League Baseball (with his brother Jackie, too), to graduating from St. Mary High School, Jim was a great friend. Loved his entire family and my deepest sympathies to you.
