John Earl Spence

John Earl Spence Sr., age 91, passed away surrounded by family on April 5, 2015 of natural causes. He was survived in life by his beloved wife Gwendolyn after 70 years of marriage, children – Susan Healey (Ed Healey), Linda Spence, Terry Spence, John Spence Jr., Patrick Spence (Katy Spence) and Kevin Spence and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and close friends. John was born in Raber, MI to Emily Duncan and William Spence. He graduated from Eben High School in 1943.

John met Gwendolyn H. Ames at the Delft Theatre in Munising in 1942. They were married in 1945 and together raised six children and in 1948 made their home in Westland. John was a proud World War II veteran who served in the Army Air Core later becoming the Air Force, manned the fire towers in search of fires for the Forestry Dept., and retired from the General Motors Technical Center in Warren, MI as a Carpenter Specialist. John was a devoted family man with high morals, integrity and honesty. He was a tough man, but a fair man and you always wanted him in your corner.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at noon on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at the Memorial Church of Christ, 35475 5 Mile Rd., Livonia, MI 48154.
