I share your grief because I am one of those lives Mike had touched. He was very kind and open to me. He supported me a great deal, and I am exceedingly sad about his passing. I was so very sorry to hear about Michael’s passing.  I just learned a few days ago from John Taylor/ACUI.  Cannot imagine the sorrow you and your family are experiencing.   After seeing Michael’s handmaid rings and necklaces,  he sent me a bling-ring many years ago and just thinking about it makes me smile.  Serving on the ACUI Board together was a great experience but it was our trip to Canada for their annual conference for student center managers that bonded our friendship.  We had such a marvelous time…our Canadian colleagues certainly know how to have a great time.  Please know that I am lifting you and your families up in prayer and positive thoughts.


I just wanted to let you know that I am so sorry to hear about Mike.  He truly was one of the kindest, sweetest person I ever had the pleasure of knowing.  You, Mike and your whole family are in my prayers!

Very sorry to hear about Mike passing away. He sure did more on this earth than most of us and now we wish him a safe passage to heaven to be with our creator. Mike was instrumental in my journey through Wayne State but more so his friendship opened up a multitude of friendships for me, indeed, his legacy will remain while his absence is felt in our loss. I met Michael way back in 1985/86...at Wayne State in the Student Center. He came up to me and we started talking.  Every time I came in thereafter I would look for him and we became friends.  I lost contact with him and moved to Israel in 1994 but continued to think about him often and wanted to reconnect.  I recently sent him a message through linkedin.  I am so sorry for your loss.  He was a great man with a great personality and a warm heart.  It was a gift to have known him.

What a loss...Like many others, ACUI was how I had the good fortunate to meet him. I can still see his welcoming smile & twinkling eye in my mind. Chris - I'm sending you all my positive thoughts and a big hug from Texas.

My sincerest condolences on the loss of Michael.  I was saddened to read your e-mail on his passing.  I was hired at WSU in 1991 and one of the 1st facility coordinators I met was Michael.  Michael and I worked together on emergency evacuation procedures; evacuation training workshops; renovation projects; and various fire and life safety projects, in Student Center.  I had deep respect for Michael and always enjoyed seeing and talking to him.  Even after he left WSU,  whenever I walked into the Student Center, I would think of him and especially when I viewed the beautiful mural he created in the lower level.  I’ll miss Michael—he was a very good person that I RESPECTED.  Again, my condolences on your loss.  My deepest sympathy to you and Michael’s family.


I am so sorry to have read your email about the passing of Mike. As you already know, he was an amazing man who was a true Tartar/Warrior.  When I think of Mike, I think to 20 years back when he helped me transition from just a tennis coach to taking on the intramural position.  I had no idea what softball entailed and Mike was very patient teaching me the ropes because I sure did not know what I was doing.  The Wrecking Crew was always a special team. I guess my big thank you was that you won the raffle a few times!  Thanks so much for your continued support buying that expensive ticket well after I moved on back to tennis.  Mike was a great guy and will be dearly missed by many especially the old timers who had the chance to know him really well.  Thinking of you during these sad times.

What a beautiful soul he was!  I'll always remember how busy he was, always making sure everything was right in the Student Center Building. 🙂  Forgive me, I won't be able to be there in person to pay my respects, but please know that you and the family will be in my thoughts and prayers. My heart is broken to have to depart with a great of a man of high standards that your husband exemplified during his life time. Losing Mike is just like losing a family member.

Michael was an amazing human being. Every conversation with him was filled with grace, wisdom and most definitely humor. He was a big supporter of mine in Region 7 and I always enjoyed time together at regional and Association events. I can't help but smile when I think of him. He will certainly be missed, but I am grateful that ACUI brought us together for a short time.  My heart breaks for Chris during this time. 


When I think of Michael....I think of his contagious, bright smile, welcoming way and joy of ACUI.  My thoughts are with Chris and the family.

Thank you for sharing the sad news of Michael's passing. The last time I saw Michael was at the ACU-I conference at Michigan State. He always had a huge smile and a hugs for everyone. My prayers are with Chris and Michael's family.

Oh, what sadness this news brings.  Michael was always full of life, with a wide grin, and an infectious laugh.  He had a significant impact on all of us, and the many students and staff that he interacted with at Wayne State. Mike was my first boss at Wayne. I will always remember how great and kind he was. I never will forget him. I would be happy to contribute to the Mike Bowen Scholarship fund. I agree, he was all about Wayne State and would love that. Thinking about you in this difficult time.

Mike was such a giving person. I will always remember working with him year after year at the Motor City Makeover and on Homecoming events when I worked in the DOSO. I will also never forget your wedding day. The two of you never looked happier and I was so happy to see you that happy. Words cannot express the the sadness I'm feeling with the passing of Mike.  He was a true friend and taught me so much about working at Wayne State University.  He was always there to help when I needed it most.  I have so many fond memories of Mike. I will never forget the softball games, building coordinator meetings, Good Guy parties, etc. that he was a part of.  He will surely be missed.

Mike was one of a kind. His love and passion for Chris, WSU and all those he came in contact with was contagious. The world would be a lot kinder and better place with more folks like Mike. My family and I will certainly miss him, but will always cherish the memories  from the time we shared.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Mike's transition.  He was a friend and colleague.  Mike and I shared some wonderful and memorable times together during our tenure at Wayne State University.  We played tennis together, we did more laughing than playing and we just enjoyed each other's company on the court.  On several occasions after we retired, we would have lunch together with other retirees to look back over our careers at WSU.  Mike was just an all around nice guy.  I will miss him greatly.  He will always be a part of my life.  I want to extend my sincere and profound sympathy and condolences to the family and I will continue to pray for you all. 

Chris, I was saddened to hear of your husband's death. It was a pleasure to meet Michael, and very impressive to read of his personal and professional accomplishments.  May many sweet memories comfort you in your grief, and may the promise of Life in Christ bring you peace.

I am so sorry to hear of Michael's passing.  Michael was, is, and will always be Mr. Wayne State.  He defined the spirit of the Green and Gold.  He was as warm a person as there ever was, is, and will be.  May you rest in peace.

Michael and Chris always supported my work through the alumni association especially when it involved students. Our bond became more solidified through Michael's work as an Wayne State Alumni Association Board member and his love for the university. His attire during games and activities showcased his upmost respect, love, loyalty for the university and Warrior spirit. Michael will be greatly missed. He truly bled Warrior Green and Gold and wanted everyone else to feel the spirit, catch the spirit and love the spirit as he did. Michael is Warrior Strong like no other! May he live forever in our minds and hearts.
