Born on March 6, 1974, in Wayne, MI, Mike was equal parts mischief and kindness – always stirring laughter (most times after the fact), always showing up when it mattered most.
Mike was a gentle-hearted soul with a flair for mischievous antics. He nearly filled volumes with his escapades—and telling those tales now still cracks us up. Mike wasn’t perfect, he was quick to laugh, quickly to joke, and yes, quick to fall short sometimes. But when life really mattered—when loved ones needed him—Mike was always there: fast, reliable, and fiercely protective.
On the basketball court, Mike was electric! Quick as a flash and fearless beyond the three point line, he could drain shots from behind the arc with an ease that left opponents smiling. Whether it was playing at Gus Macker tournaments or in the Filipino basketball league, he was known for running the floor and left everyone shaking their heads as the ball swished through the net from behind the arc.
For Mike, perfection wasn't his aim; living fully was. His imperfections only added to the richness of his character. Mike's legacy endures in the countless memories and the love he left behind.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Gigi Liwag, his dear daughter, Jasmine Liwag; his mother, Estrella G. Liwag; his sister, Michelle Liwag-Rypkowski (Keith); and his brother, Matthew Liwag (Che); two nieces, Ella Grace Rypkowski and Bella Liwag; and two nephews, Eli Quinn Rypkowski and Teo Liwag. He was preceded in death by his father, Francisco D. Liwag.
