Ruth Eloise Adams

Elder Ruth Adams was born on June 27, 1946, to the late Hozell and Louise Washington in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was one of nine siblings, all of whom preceded her in death: Annes Holmes, Willie Holmes, Thelma Wilson, George Washington, Lewis Washington, Leroy Washington, Dorothy Berry, and Flora Washington.

Ruth was a standout student who graduated from Howard High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 1964. After graduation, she attended Tuskegee University. In 1967, she moved to Detroit, Michigan, and graduated from Wayne State University. After moving to Michigan, she diligently raised her only son, Kenneth, while working as a social worker for the State of Michigan until she retired in the late ‘90s. After her retirement, she maintained her own business as an insurance agent and financial planner, a job she performed for 20 years. While living in Michigan, she spent much time with her sister, Dorothy, and her niece, Linda. Also, her loving sister, Flora, became her full-time caretaker before Flora’s own illness.

Most important to Ruth was her faith in Christ and her deep devotion to the ministry. Raised by God-fearing parents who introduced her to the Lord, Ruth’s ministry extended for decades. She was ordained as an elder while attending Holy Ghost Cathedral in Detroit, Michigan. She later ministered in Redford, Michigan, before joining Agape House of Prayer Ministries in Plymouth, Michigan. Wherever she served, she was known as a devoted, Spirit-led servant who discipled many people in Christ.

Ruth enjoyed dancing, family gatherings, traveling, and staying physically active…especially at bowling. She played on numerous bowling leagues in Wayne County and traveled across the State. In her heyday, she was ranked the #1 player in the area and was one of the few people her family knew who actually watched professional bowling on television.

One of her favorite trips was her time spent in Nigeria, West Africa. To know Ruth was to love her. She had a genuine heart of gold, and her family knew her as one who would always give an encouraging word.

On August 11, 2026, Ruth left her earthly vessel and returned to the Lord. Ruth leaves to cherish her memory, her son Kenneth (Wanna) Washington of Port Huron, Michigan; her nieces Linda (Eugene) Brazeal of Inkster, Michigan, Melvina West of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Gloria Williams of Detroit, Michigan, Ora Williams of New York, New York, Phyllis (Arthur) Lee of Detroit, Michigan, Stephanie Washington of Detroit, Michigan, Robyn (Graddie) Liddell of Westland, Michigan, Jennifer (Michael) Overstreet of Belleville, Michigan; nephews Clarence Wilson, Jr. of Westland, Michigan, Stephen (Tina) Washington of Detroit, Michigan, Steven (Timaka) Williams of Detroit, Michigan; Thomas Berry III of Youngstown, Ohio; great-great nephews Ezra Liddell and Michael Overstreet, Jr.(who she “adopted” as grandchildren); as well as many other extended family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held Friday, September 4, at 11:00 am at Agape House of Prayer, 41233 E Ann Arbor Trail, Plymouth, MI 48170.

All are welcome to join the family after the service for a repast at Angelo Brothers Restaurant, 33550 Ford Rd, Westland, at 2:00 PM.
