William "WG" Smith passed away on Thursday, June 7th, 2018, with his family at his side. William was born August 16th, 1923 to George Smith and Loretta Quinn and grew up all across southeastern Michigan, including Detroit, Carleton, and Milan. He was the third oldest of six siblings: Lila, Alberta, Howard, Doris, and George Jr. whom all preceded him in death.
When young and still small enough to fit under cars, his father taught him how to fix engines. This gave him plenty of experience for his first job working on airplanes. He then volunteered for the military in 1942, and served as an airplane mechanic with the Air Force in World War II and the Korean War. He was primarily stationed in Guam and rose to the rank of staff sergeant, until his service was completed in 1950.
After the war, William worked at Ford Motor Company until retirement. There, he met Wilma Maclean and they were married on August 16, 1952. Together, they had two children: Lori (Loretta) and Scott. They were married for 63 years, until Wilma passed away on June 28th, 2015.
Bill and Wilma enjoyed their farm in Milan, having many dogs, cats and horses over the years. He rode horses in gymkhana classes with Lori, and attended dirt bike races with Scott. William also loved riding his motorcycle, traveling, visiting casinos, golfing, and visiting family in Northern Michigan.
He is survived by his children: Lori (Lee) Armbruster; and Scott (Laura) Smith; his grandchildren Miranda (David) Greca; Jordan Smith; Andrea and Haylie Armbruster; and Shayna Smith; his step-grandson Travis Armbruster; and his great-grandchild Camden Greca.
He will greatly be missed.
