

Born September 24, 1913 in Nelson County, she was the daughter of the late Lema L. and Maude E. (Fox) Cook.
Mrs. Lunsford was a member of Sherando United Methodist Church and had been active with the Sherando UMC Women’s Club. Alene was a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing. Besides being a loving grandmother and great-grandmother, she often enjoyed gardening, knitting, doll collecting with friends and antiquing.
In addition to her parents, she was deceased by her brother, Phil Cook; sisters, Rushie Kennedy, Noble Critzer and Clara Sheffield; half brother, Jerry Cook.
Survivors include her loving children, Charles “Skippy” Lunsford, Jr. and wife, Rebecca of Lyndhurst, Kenneth “Byron” Lunsford and wife Patsy, of Lyndhurst, Shirley (Lunsford) Bridgeforth and husband, Frank of Waynesboro and Sandra “Sandy” (Lunsford) Blackburn of Fishersville; ten grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Louise Ferguson of Crozet.
A funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, June 14, 2013 at Sherando United Methodist Church with Rev. Clayton Payne and Rev. William Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Jerry Floyd, Dicky Patterson, Leonard Balsley, Rodney Hunt, Malcolm Monroe and Joe Lowery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Johnson, Maynard Patterson and friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St.
