
Born August 31, 1938 in Augusta County, he was the son of the late Saylor and Pearl (Coffey) Hatter.
Alton was baptized in the Church of Christ on November 18, 1972. He was a U.S. Veteran having served his country honorably with the U.S. Marine Corps. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a faithful employee of Mather’s Construction. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting ginseng.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother.
Survivors include his loving children, Wilford Hatter of Nellysford, Timothy Hatter of Stuarts Draft, Angela Abshire and husband, John of Crimora and Victoria Stuart and husband, Kevin of Stuarts Draft; four brothers and four sisters; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, June 2, 2014 at Wintergreen Church of Christ.
