Anna Mary Byler, 82, of Waynesboro, VA, passed away after a short illness on Monday, February 16, 2026. She was born on September 19, 1943, to the late Dave and Lena (Byler) Yoder. She is survived by her husband, Bennie Byler, whom she married on March 19, 1964; her children: Sue (J.P.) Hertzler of Fair Play, SC; Steve (Rosalind McGrath) of Hinton, VA; Sharon (Kenneth) Troyer of Waynesboro, VA; Shirley (Mark Anthony) Peachey of McVeytown, PA; fourteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and her siblings Elsie (Andy, deceased) Troyer, Tena (Tom) Swarey; and Robert (Nancy) Yoder. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother-in-law, and infant brother, Joseph.
Anna Mary learned to love the Lord Jesus at a young age and to trust Him in difficult times, especially her father’s death when she was sixteen. She was a member of Pilgrim Christian Fellowship and a helpful contributor during her husband’s ministry. When Bennie traveled on preaching assignments, she gathered the children and prayed for him every evening. She was a consistent prayer advocate for others and wrote many encouraging cards and letters. Numerous people benefited from her cooking and organizing abilities as she not only served people in her home but took food to new mothers, the elderly, neighbors, and anyone she felt needed a delicious meal, a loaf of bread, or a pie.
An energetic woman, Anna Mary enjoyed working hard. She contributed her painting skills to the family business and enjoyed mowing her lawn and growing flowers. Later in life she channeled her resources into reading good books, learning to play the piano, and making counted-cross-stitch pillow tops for her home and as gifts. Great-grandchildren looked forward to her treat bags when they visited their “Gigi” (great-grandmother).
The family will receive friends at Pilgrim Christian Fellowship, 240 Twin Hill Rd, Stuarts Draft, VA 24477, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Thursday. Funeral services will be held at Pilgrim Christian Fellowship on Friday, February 20, at 10:00 AM, with local ministry officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
A special thank you to Pilgrim Christian Fellowship church for your visits, food, and support. We have also appreciated our friends and companions in ministry and travel over the years and our caring and supportive neighbors on Conner Rd.
