Beverly was born in Lacoochee, Florida to Jeanette Sebern and James L. Wright on September 19th, 1941. After High School, Beverly went on to earn a master’s degree and spent the next 30 years teaching. She taught elementary school in Ohio and Florida, but her proudest time was spent in Haiti, teaching missionary children. In her spare time, Beverly loved to sing, being a part of the Sweet Adelines singing group, and the choir at Calvary Baptist Church in Bradenton, Florida. She enjoyed baseball, especially spring training games near her home, and was a fan of Penn State football. After moving to Virginia, she was a regular attendee of Waynesboro Mennonite Church.
In addition to her parents, Beverly was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 28 years, Donald E. Whitcomb; as well as their cherished cat, Color.
Beverly is survived by her daughter, Sarah Whitcomb of Waynesboro; her son, David Whitcomb (Susannah Fuller) of Crozet; her granddaughter, Ella Whitcomb; and her feline sidekicks, Wednesday, Thursday, and her favorite, Oliver.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at a time and date to be determined at Waynesboro Mennonite Church. She will later be laid to rest beside her husband at Manison Memorial Park, in Ellenton, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Beverly’s memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at CFF.org; or to the missions fund of Calvary Baptist Church, located at 3006 9th Ave West, Bradenton, FL 34205.
