
He was born January 15, 1950 in Swain County, North Carolina, a son of the late William Bryant, Sr., and Mary Pansy (Greene) Karnes.
Bobby was a veteran on the United States Army and retired with 30 years of service with the United States Post Office as a rural carrier.
He attended Temple Baptist Church in Newport News in his earlier years.
In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and raising his horse, “Joe Bean”.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Melissa Kay Karnes.
Survivors include a son, William Bobby Karnes and wife Mindy; daughter, Julia Theresa Bell; brothers, William Bryant Karnes, Jr., Garland “Butch” Karnes; sister, Mary Elizabeth Franklin; grandchildren, Jacob Fritz, Casey Bryant, Jonah Hatfield, Brandon Dixon, Isabella Ewing, Layton Lowery; great-grandchildren, Riley Bryant, Lydia Dixon, Rowan Lambert, Weston, Dixon and Darrion Dixon.
He also leaves the love of his life, Atha Karlene Karnes.
A celebration of life service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastor David Bane officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at the funeral home.
