Carey Harvey Almarode, 78, passed away Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at the Stuarts Draft Christian Home with her husband by her side. Born April 28, 1933, in Augusta County, she was the daughter of the late Ferd and Phoebe (Atkins) Harvey. Mrs. Almarode was a member of Hermitage Presbyterian Church, Waynesboro. She was a 1951 graduate of Wilson Memorial High School and a 1955 graduate of the Winchester School of Nursing. She was co-founder of Blue Ridge Security Systems Inc. In her spare time she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading and crossword puzzles. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Amanda Almarode. Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, Willie Almarode; sons, Harvey Almarode of Lyndhurst and Monte Almarode of Stuarts Draft; grandchildren, Jessica Brown and Tina Green and husband Stevenson Green, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Christopher and Layla Brown and Shawn Green. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at Hermitage Presbyterian Church, 46 Hildebrand Church Road, Waynesboro, with Rev. Wray Sherman officiating. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be David Almarode, Kenny Almarode, Jeffrey Almarode, Danny Almarode, Roger Flory and Doug Flory. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., Waynesboro.
