He was born November 25, 1934 in Rockbridge County, a son of the late Dalton S. and Carrie Painter Groah.
He was a member of Fishersville Baptist Church and retired as an auto body technician.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Groah, two sons, Charles “Chuck” Groah, Jr. and wife Phyllis, Larry D. Groah and wife Grace of Waynesboro, a daughter, Denise G. Campbell and husband Buck of Waynesboro, four sisters, Hazel Rexrode, Marie Landis, Virginia Sorrells, Rebecca Elrod, all of Waynesboro, eight grandchildren, Stuart Sweet, Eric Sweet, Wendy Campbell, Timothy Campbell, Tina Stewart, Julie Lawhorne, Kari Bradshaw, Brandi Farris, and ten great-grandchildren , Logan Sweet, Emily Sweet, Jeremy Sweet, Kendall Sweet, Megan Lynn Campbell, Samuel Taylor Campbell, Kadynce Grace Campbell, Cody Lee Sullivan, Erica Stewart and Alstyn Belle.
He also leaves the fiance’ of his grandson Timothy Campbell; Carolyn Sullivan, his close friend Roger Balser, his pets Lily, Cloey, Lexi and “Harley Dog”.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Fishersville Baptist Church by Pastors Steve Parker and John Hamric. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Carl Riddle, Kenny Brown, Michael Bradley, Jr., Dale Pleasants, Stuart Sweet, Eric Sweet, Eddie Fitzgerald and Joe Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men’s Last Stop and Ambassador’s Sunday School Classes of Fishersville Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 P.M. Monday, March 24, 2013 at the Fishersville Baptist Church.
