
Charlie was born in Staunton on June 5th, 1932, to the late Minnie (Townsend) and Lawrence Huff. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Nancy Ellis Sullivan Huff on February 22nd, 2024.
Additionally, he was preceded in death by his sisters Barbara Coleburn, Mary Lou and husband Bert Burtner, brother, Homer Huff, granddaughter Kelsey Hinch and two nephews, Si and Jake Huff.
Charlie was a 1951 graduate of Wilson Memorial High School in Fishersville, VA where he played the trombone in the band and was the shortstop for the high school baseball team. He attended Bridgewater College where he continued his baseball career and was drafted into the minor leagues by the Richmond Braves. Upon completion of his baseball career, he returned to Staunton, VA where he worked for many years in the auto parts industry for Hayes Chevrolet and Corner Parts.
He later went to work for Knopp Enterprises, then Dave Brown Construction which took him to Rhode Island where he met and married the love of his life, Nancy. In the mid 70’s he moved back to Staunton where he opened his own construction business, Verona Supply. Upon his retirement from full time work, he was a consultant for Contracting Unlimited in Harrisonburg, VA.
As a youth, Charlie attended Pleasant View Lutheran Church. He later joined Olivet Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon for many years. After moving to the Harrisonburg/McGaheysville area, he attended Peoples Baptist Church and was a member of First Baptist Church in Elkton where he also taught Sunday School. He was a gifted and passionate teacher. When he and Nancy moved to the Fishersville area, they attended Wayne Hills Baptist Church.
Charlie and Nancy were devout Christians who were strong in their faith and loved the Lord. They were also very competitive golfers and loved spending time together on and off the golf course.
Charlie leaves behind a daughter, Diane Huff Hinch of Fishersville, VA, a granddaughter, Emily (Helmick) and husband Andy Parr also of Fishersville, a grandson, Zachary Hinch of Staunton, VA and a great-grandson, Baylor Parr. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Family night will be Saturday, April 6th from 6:00 -8:00pm at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, April 7th at 1:00 pm at the Pleasant View Lutheran Church Cemetery, in Staunton, VA. Reverend Brint Keyes will be officiating the service. All are welcome.
