Born August 29, 1936, in Cookeville, TN, he was the son of the late Floyd B. and Beulah (Holloway) Kirby. On December 22, 1962, he married Marion June Smith. The two shared 63 years of marriage.
After high school, Charles joined the National Guard and served in the U.S. Army as a cryptographer. He later entered civilian government service and retired from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as a GS-14 Branch Chief in the Office of Information Technology in 1997.
Chuck was a people magnet. His engaging personality, intelligence, and sense of humor earned him many friends over his lifetime. His love for his family and the joy he took in them shone through in everything he did and said. He was also a gifted musician with a beautiful tenor voice who never let a melody pass unharmonized. One of his favorite pastimes was worshipping the Lord in song, which he began doing at an early age. He continued this habit through his membership in the Calvarymen and Tribunes gospel groups and church choirs as well as singing duets with his daughters.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua May, and his sister, Mary Cagle.
Survivors include his loving wife, Marion (Smith) Kirby of Fishersville; daughter, Robyn Ginter and husband Jerry of East Norriton, PA; daughter, Shannon May and husband Marc of Fredericksburg, VA; grandchildren, Andrew Ginter, Anna Ginter, Bethany May, and Rachel May; sister, Martha Peach; and special nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, a celebration of life service with military honors will be held at Community Fellowship Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, June 6, at 1 pm.
The family wishes to express its gratitude for the kindness and help of Pastor Jim Corbin and others at Community Fellowship Church, where Chuck was a member.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes of Waynesboro.
