

Born April 27, 1931 in Spottswood, VA, he was a son of the late Joseph Edward and Callie Virginia (Lunsford) Wheeler.
Pete was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served his country honorably during the Vietnam War and having rose to the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He faithfully served his country for 27 years before retiring. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he worked as a security guard on a local farm. He was a member of the Stuarts Draft VFW Post #9339 and the Lee Lodge No 209. A.F. & A.M. where he was a 32nd Degree Mason. He greatly enjoyed vegetable gardening, collecting guns and grandfather clocks, and animals especially his cats.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean (Kowal) Wheeler; three brothers, George, John and Ed; and one sister, Bonnie.
Survivors include his two children, John “Mike” Wheeler (Rose Bell) of Stephen City, VA, and Donna (Wheeler) Wilkerson (Denver) of Clovis, CA; four grandchildren, Jessica, Crystal, Cassandra, and Denver Allan; seven great-grandchildren, Bentley, Stilez, Kash, Willow, Amelia, Kylie and Kody; one great-great-grandson, Beau; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with masonic rites and military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025 at Augusta Memorial Park, 1775 Goose Creek Road, Waynesboro. All who plan to attend are asked to meet directly at the cemetery.
The family would like to give a special heartfelt thank you to Donna Hodges and Maureen Dearing for their support and loving care over the years, as well as the nurses on the skilled rehabilitation floor at Augusta Health.
