OBITUARY

Claudia Susan Sullivan

February 1, 1949November 17, 2020

Claudia Susan Sullivan (Buck), 71, of Afton, passed away on Tuesday November 17, 2020 at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Claudia was born on February 1, 1949 in Methuen, Massachusetts and was the daughter of the late Claude and Gladys (Carter) Brown. Claudia loved life. She’s traveled the world and lived in various places including New England, New Jersey and Virginia. She met many people over the years and had such an impact on so many lives. She loved the Lord and loved sharing the gospel with everyone she met. Jesus was her passion. She had a church home for about 20 years at Fellowship Alliance Chapel in Medford, NJ. While there she got involved with the Alpha program and when she moved to Virginia she found places to teach Alpha here. Claudia and husband Dave taught Alpha at LOVE Inc. which serves Augusta County. Bridge Christian Church became her home church after spending time at various churches in Virginia. She was perpetually seeking new things to learn and do. She had various jobs over the years. She worked at Goettlemann Associates which was an architectural firm and ran all day to day operations for the business. She worked as legal assistant at Binswanger Real Estate. And most recently she was the executive assistant to the president and board of directors for Virginia Poultry Growers Co- Op. Claudia developed many hobbies over her life. Some were for a season and others were life- long loves. She has raced Porsches, learned to sail and ride motorcycles. She country lined danced. She loved watching birds and being outside in her garden. When it came to Christmas trees, the rule is the taller the better to fit the hundreds of ornaments that she collected. Football on Sundays was a must. She loved to cook and bake and we will always remember a pot of soup being cooked on a weekend evening in the winter. She’s done almost all the needle crafts, then learned to spin wool and weave and decided that starting at the source would be fun. She raised sheep for that last 12 years. Every spring they were sheared and she would create different color combinations by dying the wool. She loved her pets and they were like her kids. She led a wonderfully full life. She will be missed and is loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving husband David E. Buck who she married on July 27, 2003. In addition to her husband, Claudia is survived by her children, Beth Hornback and husband John of Barrington, NJ, Amanda Buck of Mantua, NJ; her brother, Russell Brown and wife Donna of Salem, NH; and her grandchildren Matthew and wife Victoria, Rachel and Joshua and great-granddaughter Audrey.

She was also preceded in death by her previous husband, Louis H. Goettelmann II in 1988.

We extend our sincere condolences to Dave and the family in the passing of Claudia. When we lived in Afton, we enjoyed our hillside chats with you two when you took a break from mending fences. We pray for peace and comfort for the family.

Claudia was a joy to work with. She always tried to make every day upbeat and positive. I was always amazed at how many things she
the had to do at home and still drove 45 minutes to work each day. She made my life better as well as everyone she met. I will miss her.

What a joy filled lady, even throughout her illness, she just kept on keeping on doing what she loved best, serving others and sharing the good news of God's love through Jesus Christ's salvation. A great loss to everyone here on earth and yet passing on is her gain as she's now with her Savior and Lord. My heartfelt prayers are for you Dave and the family as you share your grief and learn to keep on living as Claudia would want you all to by her example. May God's comfort be ever present to give you His peace during this difficult time. With love from Linda Snyder

Ms Claudia we sure will miss your smiles here at VPGC, LLC. I will always remember you for all the beautiful flowers you had sitting on your desk that you brought from home and shared with us, and who can forget the candy jar that always has sweets for us before a meeting.
