Daniel Lee “Danny” Peyton, 57, of Waynesboro, unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was born in Charlottesville and raised in Greene County. Danny was the oldest of three children born to the late Jack Lewis Peyton and the late Priscilla Lamb Breeden. He returned to Charlottesville during his high school years and graduated from Charlottesville High School where he was a member of the Choral Department.

After high school, Danny married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Fulton. They were married for 37 years. Danny worked several short-term jobs, until finally landing at the University of Virginia Medical Center as an Office Services Attendant for the radiology department where he worked for 28 years.

In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his siblings, Maggie Corbin and Kenneth Peyton. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children, Brandon Peyton, Lauren Peyton, and Ali Loe; and his grandchildren, Malachi Peyton and Oaklan Roberts. Also surviving Danny are a number of half and adopted siblings; extended members of the Peyton and Fulton families; and many dear friends.

Danny greatly enjoyed walking on the beach, singing Motown music, cooking and particularly enjoyed a good happy hour. He was especially known for the secret wing sauce that he created. He shared certain parts of his recipe with some people and other parts of the recipe with others, purposefully to confuse people and protect his recipe. He wanted to patent, bottle and sell it.

Danny had a big personality and an even bigger loving heart; he never met a stranger and welcomed people into his life with open arms. There are many, many children, throughout Waynesboro and Charlottesville, whom he wrapped his arms around and they called him "dad".

He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed cheering on his beloved New Orleans Saints and many UVA teams. His signature cheer, whether for a team or his children’s school events, was a bellowing “HooWah” so that they would know it was him cheering them on.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 13, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.

In lieu of flowers, a GoFundMe account has been set up to help the Peyton’s with medical expenses. If you would like to donate, please use the provided link: www.gofundme.com/f/lift-up-nancy-peyton.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and nurses in the MICU at UVA Medical Center for their kindness, compassion and heroic efforts. The Peyton’s would also like to thank Mike Dillard and the Image Management team for all of their help and support during this difficult time. To all of those who donated PTO, thank you for your generosity, it is greatly appreciated.

Nancy, Brandon, Lauren and Ali,

I'm grieving with you all. I have rarely seen an obituary that so well captures someone. Danny was a wonderful man and friend. His love for all of you was evident. Hold on to these memories.

Love and regards,

Remembering the day Danny interviewed me for my job in Image Management First thing he did was handed me a jacket and said here go file this. Not knowing that mrn's are written backwards. Well! but I did what he asked and went back and he said you are hired. Always joking but always loyal to his staff. He will be missed.

This is hard. Chances are if you worked around UVA or the Charlottesville area you have ran into this guy somehow or another. Always cracking a joke and making you smile or laugh about something to make your day is just who Danny Peyton was.

He opened up his home to me and my family and i wont ever forget all the fun times we all had together. Hearing him call me Stevie G when i was walking around the hospital to the late night BBQ's at his home to teaching me every single Jimmy Buffet song known to man!

At one point i thought I finally got him to cave in and give me the ingredients to his famous Peyton's wing sauce...after reading his obituary I now see I was one of many who he has fooled and I can hear that chuckle of his now. :).

He was one of the first people to reach out to me just a few weeks ago to congratulate me and my family on the news of our granddaughter and I am very grateful that we had that conversation before he left suddenly. In short.. Danny and Nancy are just GOOD people! Rest easy Big Guy and I'll keep working on that BBQ sauce till I get it right and will always cheer on those Saints for you. Nancy our thoughts and prayers are with you and the kids.

Danny was one of the most diligent, dedicated, reliable, and compassionate team members in Radiology & Medical Imaging at UVA. He was truly a fixture in our department, and his loss is a tremendous one for the department and the countless numbers of patients and clinicians who he served and supported.
Godspeed, Danny --

Danny and i worked together for a long period of time. I enjoyed working beside Danny and to see his compassion for other people wanting to help them. Danny was a "go to person" for the image management team when trouble/issue arises. I as a Supervisor never had to worry when Danny worked solo on Saturdays he was always instrumental in getting the job done and making sure all the customers/ doctors that he has come in contact with left with a smile and well pleased. i will miss all the laughs that we had by him telling me all his jokes. Danny would always bring us doughnuts to work on Wednesday and they was sooooo delicious and huge!!! Also back in the days when we had films Danny and I would go back and forth from the old hospital to the main hospital delivering radiology x-ray jackets to different folks that needed them on the electric motorize scooters which was so much fun. I'm really going to miss my buddy and friend!!! My condolences go out to his family!!! Rest in peace my friend!!! Mike Dillard
