Doris Lunsford

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia Magdalene Fitzgerald and Ernest Hoy Fitzgerald, her husband L.A. “Buddy” Lunsford, and her brothers Larry Dale Fitzgerald and Ernest “Buck” Fitzgerald. Doris is survived by her son Scott Lunsford and wife Carman, daughter Jeanie Lunsford Siron and husband Kevin, all of Lyndhurst, and stepchildren Ramona Wallace of Baltimore, Maryland and Rodney Lunsford of Harrisonburg, Virginia. Doris is also survived by her grandchildren: grandsons Steven, Austin, and Landon Lunsford, Lucas Siron, granddaughters Taylor Weade and Allyson Lunsford, and great granddaughter Presley Lane Siron. She is also survived by her brothers: Ronnie Fitzgerald and wife Nancy of Crimora, Ken Fitzgerald, and Gary Fitzgerald, both of Waynesboro. Doris is also survived by a number of cherished nieces and nephews.

Doris loved bluegrass and country music; Doris loved to dance and could be found spending many a Friday and Saturday night two-stepping and flat-footing at one of her favorite dance halls. Doris also loved flowers, and enjoyed maintaining her flower bushes and hanging flower baskets at her home. Doris’s greatest joy was her family, whom she loved hosting at her home for holiday meals, birthday parties, and everyday visits.

Doris worked as a preschool teacher at Westminster Presbyterian Church and served on the custodial staff there. She was a lifetime member of Sherando Community Church, where she also served as the custodian for nearly 40 years. Doris's faith was very important to her and was the foundation for the way she lived. Doris demonstrated that faith through her compassion, humility, and a willingness to serve others. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all those who knew her.

We invite you to join us in celebrating Doris’s life. The family will receive visitors on Friday, October 23rd from 6pm to 8pm at Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, located at 618 W. Main Street, Waynesboro, Virginia. Doris’s celebration of life will take place at Sherando Community Church on Saturday, October 24th at 11am, 2022 Howardsville Turnpike, Stuarts Draft, Virginia. A graveside service and meal will follow the celebration of life service.

Active pallbearers will be Scott, Steven, Austin, and Landon Lunsford, Kevin Siron, and Tommy Weade. Honorary pallbearers will be family and friends attending the service.
