

Dorothy Mae “Dot” Trott, 94, of Waynesboro, VA, passed away on August 20, 2025 surrounded by her family. She was born March 22, 1931, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late William H. Kirby Sr. and Agnes M. Kirby.
Dorothy lived a life of faith, service, and love for her family and community. A devoted member of Main Street United Methodist Church, she served in countless ways over the years, including as Chair of the Administrative Board, the Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF), pianist for the Beracah Barean class, President of her United Women of Faith circle, and coordinator of memorial receptions.
Her generosity extended far beyond the church, as Dot dedicated more than three decades of service to her community. A proud member of the Waynesboro/Augusta Woman’s Club from 1991 until 2025, she served as president from 2004 to 2006, worked faithfully in the Clothes Closet and chaired the club’s annual fashion show for 25 years. She also played a key role in many club committees.
Dot broke barriers in civic leadership as the first woman to serve as Vice Mayor of the Waynesboro City Council. Her commitment to civic life also included service on the Planning Commission, the Augusta County Vocational Education Board, the League of Women Voters, and the Salvation Army Advisory Board. Passionate about education and youth, she served as chair of the School Board, a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, and a room mother for her sons’ classes. In addition, she gave her time to Meals on Wheels, delivering meals with kindness and care.
In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Luther L. Trott, Jr., and her brother, William Kirby Jr. a niece, Jennifer Kirby Savin and nephew, William Kirby, III.
She is survived by her sons David (Karen) Trott of Christiansburg, Doug (Nina) Trott of Waynesboro, and Don (Carol) Trott of Oxford, MS; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also remembered with love by her niece, Marjorie, and nephews, Roy and Bill.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday,, August 28, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Main Street United Methodist Church of Waynesboro, with Pastor Morris V. Fleischer officiating. A private burial will be held at another time in Augusta Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Waynesboro/Augusta Woman’s Club, Main Street United Methodist Church, or the American Cancer Society.
