Obituary of Edgar Lee Harris Jr.
Edgar Lee Harris, Jr., (E.L), age 93, went to be with his eternal father on October 21, 2021 at the Retreat at Fishersville. Mr. Harris was born on November 1, 1927 in Augusta County and was a son of the late Edgar Lee and Harriet Gibson Harris. He retired from DuPont in Waynesboro on May 1, 1985 with 37 years of service as an instrument mechanic. E.L. was a member of Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren for over 60 years. He was also a member of the local Elks Lodge since 1979 holding various offices. E.L. was a very active bowler, bowling in many leagues throughout the Valley. He also enjoyed pitching horseshoes, cornhole and shooting pool. Mr. Harris loved flying his airplane, watching the Washington Nationals baseball games, and keeping a well maintained vegetable garden. Over the years, E.L. donated more than 32 pints of blood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Lee Harris and his sisters, Dr. Dorothy Harris and Mrs. Helene Harris Spaulding. He is survived by his daughters, Helene Brown (David) of Waynesboro VA, Brenda Eppard (Steve) of Waynesboro; four sisters, Ms. Ann Nelson of Waynesboro, Mrs. Judith Quick (Stoney), Dr. Bette Harris, both of Fort Mill, SC, Sherry Spaulding of Greensboro, SC; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. E.L. also leaves behind his special lifelong friend Randy Brooks of Staunton. At his request, after cremation, a private burial will be held at Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren Cemetery with Pastor Galen Combs officiating. The Elks Lodge will also perform services at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial contributions be made to the Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren Cemetery Fund, 1790 Barren Ridge Road, Staunton, VA 24401.
