She was born on August 16, 1928 in Massies Mill, a daughter of the late Homer H. and Thelma (Lawhorne) Fitzgerald.
Edith retired as a hairdresser and was a member of West Waynesboro Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis “Franny” W. Thompson on April 10, 2019; siblings, Homer H. Fitzgerald, Jr., Virginia Hillworth and Margaret “Bobby” Alford.
Survivors include a son, Larry Thompson and wife, Lisa; daughter, Francine “Cindy” Simpson and husband, George; grandchildren, Adam Thompson, Jay Thompson, Denise Simpson and Doug Simpson.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Augusta Memorial Park with Phil Forehand officiating.
Following the graveside service, a memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. at West Waynesboro Church of Christ, 2212 Cortland St., Waynesboro, with Phil Forehand officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the fellowship hall of the church.
