I had the honor as a reserve officer to know and work with Sgt,\Lt.\Capt. Kerby for 23.5 years, He was a great person, i learned so much from  him. He taught me how an officer should treat people which i used for my time there. He will be missed by many.

In 1972 I had just moved to Waynesboro and I was able to get a job at the Police Dept.  He was the first Sargent I was assigned to work under.  "Rip" (Emmet) was simply a wonderful man, very wise and he certainly taught me a lot about being a Police Officer in Waynesboro. He had quite the sense of humor and had certainly pulled a few pranks on me.  I heart felt condolences to his entire family.  Thanks Rip you were a wonderful man and a friend.

When I was a officer in the late 70s early 80s, Emmett was my sergeant and mentor, so that's what I have always known him as, sergeant Kerby. He imparted much wisdom to a young officer. We also became friends. He was a prime example of a strong christian man. I know his family will miss him dearly. Deepest condolences to Tina, Becky,  Mrs Helen, and family. What a blessing it will be to see our loved ones in heaven!

I met Captain Kerby when I was a teenager ..He was one of the nicest people I ever met..This world could use more police like he was....RIP Kerby

It was a pleasure to work with Captain Kerby.  His rock-solid confidence in any street confrontation, incident or arrest gave comfort to anyone working beside him.  Many officers learned from his example.  May you rest in peace.

Kirby was a great guy, pretty much by the book, but I remember his wisdom as my sergeant on the police department.
