Gary Wayne Barnes, 69, of Waynesboro passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019, at Augusta Health. He was born in Waynesboro on May 30, 1949, a son of the late Gradford Lee and Lilly Mae (Barger) Barnes.
Gary was a 1967 graduate of Waynesboro High School and attended Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Florida. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Gary worked as an auto mechanic for many years with Jenkins Automotive and was a member of Waynesboro Church of the Brethren. Gary loved spending time out in nature and was always willing to help out any person or animal in need.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Nicholas Barnes; siblings, Bobby Barnes, Donnie Barnes, Nick Barnes, and Patricia Ann Whitaker.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Brenda Kay (Stone) Barnes; daughter, Stephanie Conier and partner, Keifer Conner; brother, Marvin Ray Barnes and wife, Connie; mother-in-law, Edith Koolger; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Gary also leaves behind his cats, Blacky and Fatty.
Following Gary’s wishes for cremation, there will be no formal services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Gary’s memory to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, VA 23060.
