Gene F. Hagwood

Gene Filmore Hagwood, 84, of Waynesboro passed away at his home on September 20, 2022. Gene was born in Waynesboro on September 27, 1937, a son of the late Ivan W. and Inez Whitesell Hagwood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Ann Hagwood; brother, James Russell Hagwood and his wife, Joanne Corbin Hagwood. He was a graduate of Waynesboro High School and The University of Virginia. He retired as a mechanical engineer in 1990 having worked at the Waynesboro DuPont Plant for 30 years. Gene was an Army Veteran and was a member of Glovier Memorial United Methodist Church. He shared a passion for service with his late wife, Ann, aiding her with her various projects, crafts and for spending time with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his children, Geffry Kent Hagwood and wife, Leigh Anne of Forest, Jill Hagwood Bowen of Centreville, Brent Joseph Hagwood and wife, Kathryn of Wytheville; grandchildren, Kellan Rice and husband Jon, of Forest, Graham Hagwood and wife Karly of Lynchburg, Milah Hagwood of Forest, Elizabeth Jones and husband Michael of Arlington, Lauren Bowen of Fredericksburg, Thomas Hagwood of Wytheville; brothers and sisters-in-law, John Swink and wife Jean of Waynesboro, Susan Johnson and husband Ronald of Verona, Gary Swink and wife Dana Belcastro of Los Angeles; as well as extended family and church friends. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2022 at Glovier Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be family members attending the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
