

He was born May 5, 1927 in Waynesboro, son of the late Casper E. Shaffer and Hattie Truslow Shaffer Wiseman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Clark Shaffer; granddaughter Deana Deaver; sister, Edith Shifflett and two infant sisters.
George was a member of Lyndhurst United Methodist Church where he was very active in the choir and activities of the church. He was an Navy Veteran and a charter member of Stuarts Draft V.F.W. No. 9339. He loved spending time with his family and being outdoors, especially in his garden. George was also a member of the Wilson Fire Department.
Survivors include one son, Webb Shaffer and wife Nancy Fox; three daughters, Sandra Fitzgerald and husband Ralph, Diana Lembo, Carol Shaffer and husband Harry Payne; one step-son, Junior Carrico and wife Eula Mae; grandchildren, Vernie Carrico III, Angie Glass, Junior Fitzgerald, Sabrina vonSchilling, Melissa Huskins, William Deaver, Jr., Christal Weidner, Michael Payne, Gil Alvarez and Justin Fitzgerald; sixteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; one nephew, Rev. Isaac Harper and a special friend, Ralph Oakes.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes of Waynesboro.
A service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012 in the Lyndhurst United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Pettry officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Stuarts Draft V.F.W. providing military rites.
Active pallbearers will be E. J. Hewitt, Ralph Oakes, Johnny Lipscomb, Roger Flesher, Larry Dale Carter and Bobby Mays.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the LUMC Choir.
