Born September 25, 1958, in Waynesboro, Virginia, he was the son of the late Dorothy (Helmick) Statler and Jack Statler.
Having been disabled since his late 20’s, Alex devoted his life to astronomy. You could always find him outside at night stargazing. When Alex wasn't stargazing, he enjoyed spending time with his children, reading, researching astronomy, working on cars, fishing and building model air planes. He served as a soccer coach with his youngest daughter’s soccer team for nine years and for the last three years he was actively involved in karate with his two youngest daughters. Alex was a member of the North American Fishing Club. He never met a stranger throughout his life and became friends with so many people. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kelly Statler.
Alex is survived by his daughters, Allison Statler, Wendy Harris, Penny Lamb and Stephanie Blough; sons-in-law, Ryan Dawson and James Johnson; grandchildren, Patrick Dawson, Isabella Harris, Shian Depoy and Makala Lamb; sisters, Karen Massie, Connie Pannell and Nancy Statler; nieces, Nikki Pannell and Amy Wood; nephews, Ronnie Elkins Jr. and Michael Jefferson Friel II; great niece, Lauren Wood.
A celebration of life service will be arranged by Alex's family at a later date.
