Obituary of Harry Coyner
Harry T. “Hank” Coyner, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving wife and family on May 7, 2019 at the age of 75 years old. Hank was born in Bend, Orgeon on August 20, 1943. He attended Wilson Memorial High School and Fishburne Military School before receiving a Bachelors of Science Degree in Agricultural Engineering from Virginia Tech and a Masters of Education from the University of Virginia. A Vietnam Veteran, he served two years in the U.S. Army. Following his service, he taught and coached for five years at Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Virginia and three years at Stuarts Draft High School in Augusta County, Virginia. He worked for 38 years in the insurance industry, the last 33 years in sales management for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Hank was preceded in death by his parents, John S. and L. Elizabeth Coyner, and his first wife of 24 years, Patricia Tinsley Coyner. Survivors include his loving wife of 22 years, Lucy Kindig Coyner of Chattanooga, TN; his brother, Scott Coyner of Ohatchee, AL; his sons, Cliff Coyner and his wife, Kandi, and Craig Coyner, all of Waynesboro, Virginia; his daughers, Taylor Coyner Neubig and her husband, Stephen of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Morgan Coyner of Nashville, Tennessee; his step-daughter, Beth Richardson and her husband, Jim, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; his step-son, Robert Gum, and his fiancée, Caitlin Vyborny, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; 11 grandchildren; and his little buddy, his dog, Sammie. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May,13, 2019 at Mt. Vernon Church of the Brethren, 102 Mt. Vernon Rd., Waynesboro, Virginia with Rev. Chris George officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 340. Active pallbearers will be Cliff Coyner, Craig Coyner, Robert Gum, Jim Richardson, Stephen Neubig and Caleb Richardson. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 West Main Street, Waynesboro, Virginia 22980. In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial donations to be made to the ASPCA or the Ronald McDonald House to commemorate Hank’s love of animals and children.
