Born July 7, 1957 in Virginia, he was a son of the late Harvey Rodgers Ball and Cecile Diane (Shue) Ostrem.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Ball.
Prior to his retirement, Harvey dedicated over 35 years of service as a maintenance mechanic with Ply Gem. He took great pride in his work and the relationships he built throughout his career. He had a lifelong passion for racing. He enjoyed drag racing at Eastside Speedway and spent many years as a crew chief in circle track racing, traveling from Bristol, Virginia, to Florida. Outside of racing, he found great happiness on the golf course, spending countless days at Bunker Valley Golf Range and participating each year in the “Fore the Kids” event. He also loved the outdoors and could often be found fishing, hunting, or skeet shooting—pastimes that brought him both peace and excitement.
Harvey never met a stranger. He greeted everyone with a warm smile and a quick wit that could brighten any conversation. Known for his quiet generosity, he gave freely of his time and resources to those in need, never seeking recognition for his kindness. Harvey will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
Survivors include his loving companion, Karen Sanford of Stuarts Draft; sister, Cherril Peters of Waynesboro; nieces, Casey Ball and Angela Peters; nephews, Logan Peters (Meghan) and Preston Peters (Kim); great-nieces and nephews, Mason, Maxxon, Afton, Alexander, Caden, Beckett, Emmett, and Hazel; Karen’s children whom he thought of as his own, Kody, Jared, Jacob, Hailey, and Justin; special friends, Bill and Ellen Martin, Will Martin, Dean and Regina Smallwood, Steve and Charlotte Smallwood, Rick Smallwood, Gary and Theresa Roach, Bunker Valley Golf Range and all those who participated with the “Fore the Kids” event; and cousins and extended family members.
